  • The learning objectives of the activity.
    • Learn about the life of William Shakespeare.
    • Establish reading purpose.

    • Guide reading to facilitate comprehension.

    • Help students construct meaning and monitor comprehension.

    • Support ongoing summarisation.

    • Check comprehension.

    • Provide opportunities for students to summarise, synthesise, evaluate, elaborate, integrate, extend and apply text information.

  • The advantages of using TimeToast for this activity.
TimetToast is a helpful tool to use in the English classroom when you have to create online timelines. It has the advantage that they are very attractive and you can add photos o videos to make it more interesting and interactive.

  • The steps you followed to set up the activity.
1. Learn to use TimeToast.
2. Research, select and prepare the text (format, vocabulary, length, images, etc...).
3. Create flashcard to work on the vocabulary.
4. Prepare Pre-Reading, Whilst-Reading and Post-Reading activities.
5. Explain to students TimeToast and how to use it.
6. Help students to create their timeline.
7. Revise and correct the timeline.
8. Help students to create their timeline on TimeToast.
9. Evaluate the timeline.
10. Create a post on the blog to publish the timelines.

  • Any problems and how you and the students solved them.
1. Find and select appropriate text for the students.

I solved it researching, selecting and preparing the text (format, vocabulary, length, images, etc...).

2. Create a timeline with TimeToast with my students.

My students are 11 years old so they do not have a gmail account to register on TimeToast. I had to talk with the headteacher so they could get their Google accounts (g.educaand.es) and use the Google Suite. I had to create an account so they could use it to create the timeline while all the students have their personal Google accounts (g.educaand.es). This is the reason why it took so long to do this activity.

  • The students’ reaction – how did they feel about using TimeToast to complete the task?

They felt really good using TimeToast. They were excited to publish their timelines on the blog but some of them had a lot of troubles learning how to use the TimeToast tool. They needed a lot of help. They want to use it again.

  • Some things that you would change / improve next time.
Prepare a reading comprehension before creating the timeline and make and oral expositions of the different timelines.

  • At least 3 ways that the use of TimeToast helped you achieve your learning objectives.
1. Students were motivated to post the timeline.
2. We have been practicing reading comprehension and learning new words.
3. We used a variety of reading strategies.
