Storyjumper.
In group the students will create a collective story through the visualization of different images from the book the Monster.
● What was the sequence of tasks that you followed to get to the final product?
I am a primary teacher so I organised the activity from three subjects.
1. Lengua Castellana y Literatura.
They collaborated in groups of three to create a story watching a sequence of images. First, the students had to describe their ideas to their classmates about the different images taking turns. Then, they had to listen their classmates ideas. Finally, they had to write their own story.
2. Inglés.
The students used the dictionary to translate the story that they had created in Lengua. They had to summarize it selecting the principal ideas.
3. Digital en el aula.
The students learnt how to use the Storyjumper web and used the laptop in the classroom to create the digital story that they had been working on.
● What were the specific learning objectives for this activity? How did the use of the tool help the learners achieve these objectives? Please be specific and give concrete examples.
The objectives for this activity are from three different subject.
1. Lengua Castellana y Literatura.
- Listen, speak and dialogue in communications situations proposed in the classroom, arguing their productions, showing a receptive attitude and respecting other people´s approaches.
2. Inglés.
- Read diverse texts related to their experiences and interests to extract general and specific information for a previous purpose.
- Write texts for various purposes on topics previously discussed in the classroom and with the help of models.
3. Digital en el aula.
- Learn to use responsibly the new technologies for an specific purpose.
- Share with your classmates your productions.
Storyjumper helped to the students to learn these objectives because it was a new tool for them and they were excited and motivated to create their own digital story. Thanks to this tool they students worked hard to create interesting tales and share them with the rest of the classmates.
Furthermore, this tool motivated them to read because they were curious about their classmates stories and they wanted to read them.
● In what ways (be specific) was creativity and the use of imagination encouraged in your students?
Creativity and the use of imagination were two of the main pilar for this activity. From the beginning they had to produce their own tale looking a variety of pictures and talking with their partners. They had to image the situations behind the scene and share with their classmates their ideas. Then they listened to their classmates´s ideas to improve their own story.
● What did your students enjoy most / least about this activity?
The most attractive part for my students was to create the story using Storyjumper. The least fun was to translate the story.
● What would you change next time?
I would like to write the story directly with Storyjumper but my students are young and it´s very complex to create without any help. For this reason, we created it in Spanish in Lengua Castellana y Literatura and then we translated it. They felt more secure when they had a story and they just had to translate it than to create it directly in English.
● How were the finished projects shared with the rest of the class?
To share the finished projects the students had to upload them to Moodle Centros where we all could read them.
● What opportunities were there for students to co-evaluate and discuss the learning experience with each other?
We had several opportunities to co-evaluate and discuss the learning experience because we have been working in group of three sharing our ideas with the rest of the students. Besides, we shared our stories through Moodle Centros and we could write a message to our classmates.
